Simon & Mike Facilitation Workshop in Adventure Programming

Simon Priest, who inspired us adventure education around the world in Fukuoka, Osaka, and Tokyo at the beginning of 2023, will come back in March 2024. Moreover, along with Micheal Gass, who is co-author of Effective Leadership in Adventure Programming and leading adventure therapy research the world.

In this workshop, we will discuss the facilitation techniques of adventure programming, which Japanese is not familiar with, in Effective Leadership in Adventure Programming. You will understand the differences in facilitation objectives and techniques for each field, such as education, development and therapy through experiential workshops.

In addition, by linking with the International Outdoor Education Research Conference, which will be held in Tokyo from March 4th to 8th, there is no doubt that this will be a dream-like collaboration not only for Japanese people but also for outdoor educators around the world. Don't miss this project if you are currently or in the future looking to work in the field of adventure education.

Lecturers

Simon Priest

Canadian living on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. He is a former professor at Brooke University. He has taken an initiative in adventure program research for many years, and has made great achievements in this field, including serving as president of international organizations related to adventure and outdoor education, such as the Association for Experience Education and the British Outdoor Education Association. He is also one of the world's leading adventure program researcher, having been invited as a visiting researcher by over 30 institutes around the world.

Michael Gass

Professor at the University of New Hampshire. He is the founder of The Brown Center, which provides adventure therapy and corporate training to over 8,000 clients annually. He is one of the world's leading researchers and practitioners in the field of integration of adventure program and clinical psychotherapy, serving as the director of the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Center affiliated with the University of New Hampshire.

"Effective Leadership in Adventure Programming", co-authored by Simon and Michael, was first published in 1997, and continues to be a worldwide bestseller as a textbook on adventure program, with the third edition still being published a quarter of a century later. This is a course to be the WEA Certified Outdoor Educator qualification that can provide all WEA courses. Currently, the WEA curriculum is being introduced to AT (Adventure Travel) guide training, and is attracting increasing attention. This course is intended for educators who have practiced wilderness education and expedition education for many years. Please check the dedicated site for details such as participation conditions.
